Our History Informatics Hong Kong started operation in 1992, under the name of Informatics Resources (HK) as a Distance Education centre in Tsimshatsui. It was transformed into Informatics Open Institute (IOI) later. Over the years, Informatics has expanded continuously by setting up computer colleges and business education centres. Informatics College was founded in Yaumatei in 1994 and in WanChai in 1995. As business and management courses were showing prominence in Hong Kong, Informatics did not neglect this important educational and training area. Therefore, to meet this need, Informatics had looked into offering business studies programmes from certificate to master degree levels with the setting up of Thames College in 1996 in Tsimshatsui. Informatics College was opened in Macau and in Tsimshatsui in 1997. Later the first Children IT Training Centre was opened at Shatin called Computer Assisted Learning (CAL). In 1998, in response to greater demand for business studies, Informatics opened its second business education and training centre Thames College in Tsuen Wan. Later Informatics launched its second Child Development programme for children IT training in 1999. To meet the demands from industry practitioners for training in IT skills and knowledges, Informatics Professional Development Centre (IPDC) was opened in Admiralty in May 2001. IPDC offers a wide and complete range of IT training courses from special skills to network and systems training. Programmes conducted by IPDC are well defined and structured to meet the business and IT industry needs. Informatics Hong Kong's core business is in delivering high quality education and training services at economies of scale system. In this year while stepping into the 15th year, Informatics Hong Kong is offering courses in Information Technology (IT) and Business Management fields. Informatics modular courses ensure students have maximum opportunity to complete the course successfully and afford the students flexibility to complete the entire course over a period of time. To cater for working adults and students, who prefer non-traditional method of studies, there is an e-learning mode through the Internet. Informatics have kept up the latest trends in its delivery of courses from the traditional classroom based on distance learning and up to the present moment, we offer virtual learning through internet. Courses are available from certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma, to Degree and Master level. All Informatics awards are recognised internationally by well-known universities from UK, USA, Australia, Canada and most Commonwealth countries. Some of our university partners offer third year top-up degree completion programmes as well. Awards & Prizes This year Informatics HK is awarded the Caring Company Logo 2006/07 by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, in recognition of our commitment to corporate citizenship. This is the 4th consecutive year to obtain the award which is a social recognition of our position in Hong Kong. In order to fulfill our corporate responsibility in community caring, we have launched Informatics Scholarship 2007 since last year. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage people with physical disabilities/ chronic illness to pursue lifelong learning. Our Campus Informatics started operation in Hong Kong in 1992 under the name of Informatics Resources (HK) as a Open Learning Education centre in Tsimshatsui and was known as Informatics Open Institute (IOI) later in 1999. Informatics Open Institute (IOI) has one of the widest range and choice of Open Learning education programme offered in Hong Kong. IOI together with her university partners and overseas affiliations are focused on providing high quality education at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels, through the management and delivery of flexible learning, e-learning, seminars, training programmes and scheduled faculty visits. IOI has in the past years managed over 11 Degree programmes with an average overall enrolment of over 10,000 students. It works with university partners in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. These programmes are registered with the authorities under the Hong Kong Non-local Higher and Professional Education. The year also saw a healthy number of graduates graduating from our distance learning programmes. With these graduations, IOI has become one of the major contributors towards the development of human resources and manager at the workplace. There are study/discussion rooms available for prior booking. Students are also supported through 'email-a-Professor' service throughout the course. Service Executives are appointed to handle the administration, management, consultation front desk and operational aspects of IOI.
